I'm also going for 'ouch'. Have you ever noticed him do this before he hurt his cruciate? If it's a new thing, then of course it's more likely to be related to the injury than if he did it before as well.

If I had a penny for everytime I heard 'my dog chewed it for hours' on a review of a dog chew, and then Merlin just either not like it, eat it in seconds, bury it, or chew it for ten mins and get bored, I would be rich! Bully sticks, however, seem to be the exception. At least at the moment!

15mins and counting, he's still laying there chewing it. Longer than any chew he's had before, normally he's bored long before now. He even got bored of his duck necks, and left the carcass on the sofa as he mooched around. Very pleased!

Fingers crossed, Sampson on eats bully sticks or lamb ribs , any other chew he ignores and any other meaty bone he looks at me as what the hell is that

Did the vet get back to you about progress?

Had a call back. Its both good news and bad news. Bad news is he apparently shouldn't be skipping at all at the moment, but the good news is he is being referred to a specialist. Will know in 2-3 days what is going to happen next.

Have been awake since 4am worrying about it. I really don't want him to have exploratory surgery, so I might see if we can get an MRI or whatever instead. Been reading up on the surgerys available, and 1/3 of patients have complications and don't regain full use of their leg.

Annoying thing is 90% of the time he's fine, its just when he jerks forward or twists his leg that he limps. I've tried everything short of crate rest, which I've heard isn't advised because the joint needs mobility, to stop him from being an idiot. I was just hoping that inbetween him being an idiot it had time to heal. And I am furious at the vet giving him the all clear to go off lead, without a doubt I think that made his injury worse as he's skipping more now than when he did when we first noticed it, when he was on zero painkillers.

That's why I would worried about surgery if it doesn't work or makes things worser, I would definitely try to have an MRI if he hasn't already, as that will show more than a normal x-ray, always listen to your gut on what you think is best for him as you know him better than the vet.

Possibly AMAZING news. The vet got back to me, as the consultant got back to him. He has also posted the video on an international vet forum. Merlin MIGHT just be a weirdo. Yep! He might no longer be in pain, but has something with a long name that started with 'idiosynpathic' which basically means he has a 'tick' in his walk.

Because off lead he shows no sign of it, he fully puts weight on it, and painkillers do nothing, they are exploring this apparently rare condition. He is going to possibly go to Willows just to properly check him over if they feel it necessary just to make sure.

They also suggested it could be something to do with his tendons, but I am hoping for 'no further treatment and he is not in any pain' diagnosis.

"Idiopathic" is medical-speak for "We don't know the cause".
