Pheasants
A friend of mine who lives in the countryside gets a lot of pheasants, but always throws away the (raw) carcasses rather than giving them to her working labrador (as in type - he doesn't actually work) as she doesn't want him getting a taste for pheasants and upsetting any local gamekeepers. Is there any possibility that this would happen? Would he associate the carcasses with the birds themselves? I'm guessing there must be some similarity in their smell.

Re: Pheasants
Yes, it can happen especially with a food-oriented dog like a labrador.
But your friend could breast out the pheasants and cook them. They'd still smell of pheasant but not raw pheasant. Working gundogs have to differentiate between shot and unshot game, so the marked difference in smell between raw and cooked pheasant would be easily discerned.
Or your friend could give them to you seems a shocking waste.

A dog is never bad or naughty - it is simply being a dog

Thank you Unfortunately she lives right over the other side of Dorset from me or I'd be over to collect them all.
