grass

Post by DogzRule1996 »

we have sooo many patches of missing grass in our backyard. wait, no, they aren't patches, it's just like lots of grass missing and patches of LIVE grass, so my mom thinks the dogs were the ones who sat there eating them and plucking them. I honestly don't think two dogs (one small one medium) can pluck/eat a whole yard of grass, could they?

Maybe there are grubs under the ground that have eaten the roots. We get them here.

Bruiser and Dixie like to nibble on grass during the day and they haven't managed to kill our yard. They don't steadily eat the grass, just nibble here and there though.

So it's not exactly possible for two dogs to eat up an entire yard.

I guess it depends on how big your yard is and how steadily they're munching?

Well we haven't actually seen them munching on the grass, and it's a pretty decent sized yard (not sure exactly now big).

I would watch the dogs to see if they are actually the ones eating the grass. It's been insanely hot here and my grass is suffering from it, so maybe it's dying because of the weather or like Nettle said, there's an insect munching on it that you don't see. Mine nibble daily, but they're not goats, so it's not an all day every day thing (J would be much happier if they did though as he wouldn't have to mow our backyard). Something else you might consider--our neighborhood is overrun with rabbits. If I had to guess there's at least 30 or so of them roaming the streets. I'm not sure how they do it, but they get into our backyard and eat our grass. They're doing it a lot less with Dixie around, she's faster than Bruiser and I think could actually catch them if they didn't dodge or weave at the right moment.

That's probably why your dogs are eating your grass -to get to the insects and worms underneath! Dogs like their meat fresh too!

I've sat there reading while keeping an eye on the dogs but never actually caught them doing it. During the day the dogs are outside so we can't watch them at that time. We've blocked off every little hole possible and with the dogs outside all the time a rabbit can't possibly come inside.

Possibly stupid question, are you sure it's not them peeing that's killing the grass? We have 3 bald patches here, all where Rupert usually pees and it didn't take long at all for that to happen.

It's not patches of grass that are missing. It's whole sections. There are patches of LIVING grass, so the dead grass is everywhere and overpowering the live grass
