I'm New....

Post by Brooke »

Hello,

Just thought I would introduce myself before I start joing in. My name is Julie I have 2 dogs a WhippetxTerrier called Brooke and a Whippet called Murph.

I teach flyball in Leeds which I love and also have started doing agility with Brooke, Murph will start in the New Year. Love all things dogs and hope one day to become a trainer.

This site is great, I have come over from Lurcher Link. I'm a huge Victoria fan, Sky+ every episode :D

Will no doubt speak to you all soon.

Hi there nice to meet you - where abouts in leeds to you live? I live in Gildersome near Morley. I have a 6 month old Dobe pup called Bruce - after a little more obedience training I am hoping to do some agility and fly ball with him - he's up for anything so I want to do as much with him as possible to keep his mischievous mind busy!! Plus it looks like a lot of fun for us owners too! :D

Hi Nicola,

I am from Calverley near Pudsey, nice to meet you. I teach flyball at My Pet Stop, Tingley roundabout near the Whiterose centre. There are 6 of us that have founded the flyball club (Leeds'Owlers) we compete at tournaments all over the north of England. It's great fun, feel free to come up and see us and if you fancy it Bruce can come and have a go, he will have to be 12 months old before he starts. I'm sure you would enjoy it we have a lovely club with lots of friendly people and a real mix of pups. Have a look at the website www.leedsowlers.com (copy and paste as I don't think you can click on the link!)

I do agility at Wakefield dog club near Ossett, it's great fun. We should start competing it that too very soon, all this keeps you very fit too :D

:o Brooke you're not far away from me at all - I share a horse in Pudsey so I am in that neck of the woods quite often! Also, My Pet Stop is where I have been taking Bruce for obedience training - we will have completed the puppy foundation course next Tuesday and I am planning to enrol him on the intermediate puppy course to follow as we are both really enjoying it there. I don't suppose you know Martin "Dogmann" do you - he is Bruce's dog walker and I know that he is often at My Pet Stop for various training. I will definately have a look at the website and hopefully join when Bruce "comes of age"!

Bloomin'ek. Small world isn't it :D

I know of him but not to talk to as we only hire out the arena for practice, we arn't part of MPS.
We also have an outdoor training ground in Cleckheaton which we use for Saturday morning. We train at MPS on a Wednesday night so feel free to bob down anytime and meet us, you can always bring Bruce down just to socialise him with the gang anyway all the dogs have lovely temperements. Then when he is of age he will be familiar with the surroundings and dogs.

How bizarre

Definately - I'll try and get down at some point and I'll bring Bruce along. I've had a look at the website and it looks like such fun and such a nice bunch of people.

Yes Bruce is very cute - such a character and very speedy so he might just be able to keep up with you guys (that's once he is more coordinated - he is all legs at the moment! ). Shadow is my parent's dog who I am 'fostering' at the moment as they have just moved to India. He is a lab x dalmation, 4 yrs old. I would like to do more training with him as he has never really done anything - tbh i wonder whether he is a little dim  ... there never seems to be much going on in his head! Perhaps getting him into some training would liven him up a bit

Ah you should bring Shadow too then, we have 4 wonderful Lab's that were so easy to train, we thought they would be a handful but have proved such naturals. It has taken my Whippet 18 months to master it so time is no issue!!! :?

Let me know when you fancy coming to see us and will make sure we are all there to welcome you.

Definately will do - will try and bring Shadow too but it's a bit of a handful trying to handle them both simultaneously at the moment - lead training a puppy while he is hanging off the older dog's ear is always a challenge

... no pressure then!! Problem with shadow is that if he gets even the slightest bit excited he tries to hump everything in sight - even though he hasn't got the relevant equipment... quite embarassing  :?

LOL.....Bless him. Don't worry we have alsorts of characters in the club with embarassing party tricks so you won't be alone there!!!!

There are plenty of experienced handlers to help with Bruce and Shadow so don't worry too much somone will always be there to look after one whilst you are training the other, should you ever wish to bring both !!!!
