Re: friend for bax

Congrats on the chill Bax! :D :D :D If you want a fun variation on a Kong, Puppies R Us makes a neat silicon "snake" with an empty slit along the length for stuffing. The head does squeak so you may want to stab it, but honestly it's a tough squeaker to squeak so he may not even discover i...

Re: Change of behaviour

Delta also refuses plain rice when he's not feeling well. Boiled chicken only for him, and I make sure to remove most of the skin as the fat content of it might not help a poorly tum.

When he's feeling well, Del is fond of buttered and salted rice, though. Especially buttered.

Re: Ttouch

Build plays a lot into it. Delta is 45 lbs but only two inches shorter than the 90lb dog we dogsit, and I have harnesses that easily fit both because she's not too much bigger around than him at the chest. She's longer, though, and has more weight around her back and legs. Think of an English Bulldo...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

What a lucky encounter, Judy! Well, lucky when your friend came along, not lucky that you dropped the wrong bag in the bin. I thought having Delta intact would help him be considered a "threat" by reactive dogs despite Delta's nice temperament, but he's so good that most of the time ...

And Nando Brown just posted this video on "reducing arousal with minimal stimulation" which could be useful!

Re: friend for bax

If you have a Facebook, the group Canine Enrichment has sooo many ideas for things to do with dogs. I wonder if you could try to find someone else with a terrier who needs a playmate and get together for play sessions in a yard or small dog area of a dog park? Few people use those, at least in my ar...

Re: CBD for anxiety in my dog

I haven't personally used it, but a friend with an anxious dog is happy with how CBD treats have been helping her dog. It doesn't magically make him "normal," but he is better able to cope with situations that would be very difficult for him otherwise. I believe she uses Adaptil spray as w...

Re: Breed suggestions?

I love smooth collies but couldn't find a good breeder within 500 miles of me, sadly! They are also usually a bit lower intensity than I'd be looking for, from what I've heard and seen. Meeting was rescheduled as the vet will be out of town this week. 23 days now...but the more I learn about P...

Re: 24-hour harness

I would go for something lightweight yeah. The TTouch is very nice. The Balance can be adjusted along the back, so that may help with fitting to avoid armpit sores if the dogis thin-furred and unused to harnesses.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Judy, Delta and I have such a variable schedule that I doubt either of us will notice much when clocks go back this coming Sunday for us ;) Delta and i are working on heeling pivots for our current training challenge, as well as being able to tell the difference between "touch " and "...

Re: Breed suggestions?

That's fine with me, honestly. I could use a starey dog to have as a "rude" decoy dog for dogs who are doing well with Delta. (Delta also stares, but his hair is often drooping over his eyes so the other dogs don't notice ) The breeder I emailed will be about half an hour away from me...

Re: Breed suggestions?

I was originally thinking of malinois, but talking to people who have experience with them, the breed may be prone to same-sex aggression. I don't want to do an early spay, and I don't want to keep Delta and a ***** in heat separated in a fairly small apartment, so I am probably looking to get a mal...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Yes, I believe the US celebrates it more intensely than the UK. We have to shut down the roads downtown as we get thousands of adults gathering to celebrate in costume. :) Opal is doing well! She's starting to get restless so I have to kick up the enrichment. We have a gate keeping her in a carpeted...
