Re: Mud Bath for baby and ME!
He was very relaxed, the little brat. So relaxed, he just surveyed me with calm disinterest as I landed tush backwards and then face forwards in doodoo-filled mud!!!  (Did I mention how it got on my lips and in my mouth? <shudder> Yep, I'm going to continue deluding myself that it...

Re: Questions about Tracking
Wow, I never even thought about doing it that way! Gosh, I love this board. :D I'm completely ignorant about tracking except for what I've seen on some shows, including Victoria's, where people go hide in blinds or hide a single scented item somewhere. I've had friends who did Schutzhund and I recal...

Re: What's changed?
I agree with the others on the need to see the vet. Particularly, the full blood work-up. My prior GSD had some behavior changes when he hit 6 and 1/2. He would on occasion growl at me or snap for no reason. He once bit me -- badly -- on my hand when I'd been doing nothing more than hugging him gent...

Mud Bath for baby and ME!
Much to my chagrin, my boy loves the mud pits at the dog park. It had been raining massively last week so he didn't get the chance to get a lot of exercise, so when it was clear on the weekend, off we went to the dog park. After about two hours worth of swimming and running, Zola eventually wandered...

Questions about Tracking
I'd love to learn more about tracking work from anyone who does it. Zola has the best nose of any GSD (or of any dog) I've ever owned, so in order to give him mental stimulation and stop his OCD-reflection chasing, I got a Remington Dog Tracking kit for him yesterday. He really enjoyed the short ses...

Re: Laser Light/Reflection Chasing GSD- now OCD
Springer , thank you so much for writing. It really helps to know that someone else has this same problem *and* that it can get resolved somewhat with a lot of work. It's funny that you mentioned tracking inside the house because I went yesterday to get the Remington Dog Tracking set, complete with...

Re: Laser Light/Reflection Chasing GSD- now OCD
Horace's Mum, I never thought about it that way. Good stress and bad stress.... really interesting. I'm glad both of you don't think he's suffering from bad stress, because that would pain me a lot. I will definitely keep a strict eye on his adrenaline levels and make sure he doesn't get overwhelmed...

Re: Laser Light/Reflection Chasing GSD- now OCD
This is what I like about this forum though - the crate solution might well work for one dog, hey in time... it might be something to use with Zola - right now its not, so try it with a mat instead - this sharing of ideas and nudging new ideas out of one anothers brains is great stuff! I love that ...

Re: Laser Light/Reflection Chasing GSD- now OCD
You're both absolutely wonderful! Great suggestions and tips, and I'll definitely follow all of them. A few specific responses below: Be careful with his exercise too - it is great that he gets lots of exercise, but with excitable dogs like him the exercise in itself can increase the adrenaline to s...

Re: Crying puppy is making me homeless
What kind of dog is he? Do you have a crate to leave him in? I do not mean for you to lock him in, but for him to have a safe place and a den for him to curl up in whenever he wishes? If so, I'd leave a t-shirt with your smell on it in there for him. It will make him feel comforted and might help a ...

Re: My dog ignores other dogs - Why?
That makes 3 of us.... My silly doofus is aloof towards other people but automatically thinks other dogs=play time. I've trained him now to sit by my side when he sees one, but every single part of his body quivers in desperation to go play, and when the urge is too much for him to resist a sn...

Re: Laser Light/Reflection Chasing GSD- now OCD
Emmabeth, you're a sweetheart. Thank you for your detailed reply. BTW, just so you know, I asked Victoria a question about Zola's issue but *before* you'd posted this, so it wasn't as though I was ignoring or dismissing your advice. I never thought about feeding Zola's meals from his Kong. That woul...

Re: German Shepherds!
I want to post pictures of Sam and my 4 dachshunds, but it is definately going to take a brighter mind than mine to do it. I don't know what the problem is (idiot behind the wheel is my suspicion  ) but yeah, I need help  My Sam is the old fashioned Rin Tin Tin shepherd, not the sleek loo...
