Re: What breed of dog should I get?
Try this site. It seems to be a little more neutral and so far I’ve only seen one vague allusion to “leadership”. The other site is FULL of pack leader hooey and I stopped going there a long time ago even though the “normal” information was somewhat helpful. http://www.justdogbreeds.com/all-dog-bree...

Re: Refraining from posting on fear-based issues...
I tend to see things like "I'll knock his teeth out" as people venting frustration, not something they're literally going to do, I don't know anyone who'd literally knock a dogs teeth out for something but I know a hell of a lot of people who'd say it in frustration or anger or as a joke....

BOXED WINE? What are we, savages? Well I guess I'll grab a bottle of Sam Adams Octoberfest out of my fridge and join you guys! L is out seeing a show, River's sleeping, and here I am on my computer (a rare occasion these days unless I'm at work!), doing a little work but also checking into the...

Re: Siblings fighting - help needed!
A good breeder would never agree to giving two pups to the same home. They are still so so young, you are probably better off giving one of them back.

Re: New nervous behaviour
At 1 1/2 years he's at what I believe is his last fear stage. If you can avoid doggy day care for now, it might be a good idea. You never know if it's something there that's setting him off. And if you come home for lunch and he's kept busy at home while you're at work the rest of the time, it might...

Re: Rescue dog snapped at daughter
This is splitting hairs, but try to stay away from thinking of yourselves as her "masters." If you tweak that slightly to just think of your whole family as her teachers and her guides, then it removes that "I'm in charge and she should know it" mindset. It's a much happier way t...

Re: How long does it take in real-time?
Usually the voice-over will indicate any time lapse on any given clip so the viewer can tell how long something actually takes. It's important to keep in mind that all dogs are different and, just like babies, will develop and/or learn at different rates. So just work with the dog in front of you an...

I think it's the owners who need help understanding their dogs.

Re: Nylabones
I like allpetnaturals.com. I bought a fleece harness there and got great service. Their products look great.
Sorry Fundog I have no suggestions for your Nylabone problem. If they're not interested in them then you may just be better off cutting your losses and finding an alternative.

Here's a picture of Murphy <3 from last fall. He would never wear a costume and we would never take him outside on Halloween, so no Halloween ones! But boy, did he love running around in dry leaves! This was a "focus" moment at the park. 8 http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c304/nyckaren/Mu...

Re: Explaing Positive Reinforcement, rethinking key "sound bits"
Jumping in here, because my friends are struggling with their puppy and meeting her needs while training her. They are teaching "give" by wrenching a toy out of her mouth. They teach "off" by saying "no" (when I'm at their home I say "off" and hope it sticks)....

Re: Anyone heard from Noobs???
Thank you all for your kind words. I really do appreciate it. bendog, Murphy wasn't aggressive either (most dogs aren't); he was also fearful as yours was. He just showed it in a much scarier way. I just wanted to clarify that. I appreciate the advice to step away from my friends with the new puppy....

Re: Anyone heard from Noobs???
Hi and thanks for all your thoughts and concern. I just wanted to let you know that Murphy no longer lives with us. It was just too much to ask him to work through his fears in our small apartment with very few places to "get away" and feel safe. I always thought we had a big apartment by ...

Re: VERY young pups lost their mom. Advice?
Thank you for that, Nettle. Jacksdad, thanks to you as well. I should amend that by saying I didn't really mean "messed up," just "special needs." And yes, they do indeed need the ones who will try hard, not the ones who put their dogs in the back yard, think they're fine, and li...
