Re: Problems Seemingly Impossible To Solve

They're good ideas, thanks everyone. I wish we could buy him back - and maybe we could eventually, we're moving down here in two months so we'll be coming round every day to walk him and stuff. We could maybe buy him back then, but, my thinking is that it would be disruptive for him. We'll see wher...

Re: Presa Canario Episode

I think this discussion can be worthwhile as long as the tone doesn't get too adversarial (eg "And what kind of dogs do YOU train?"). But I think the bottom line is that this forum is out to help mostly normal dog owners who have dogs with fear problems or who lack manners. If you're train...

Re: Ear cleaning

You're welcome. :D I figured Rescue Remedy would be okay since it can be rubbed on fingers to massage ears for calming. Funny thing though...I just realized that for weeks I've been talking about his right ear being more of a concern. Just now I realized that I really meant his LEFT ear. It's the ea...

Re: hi all

Jacksdad is right, it's not just the males. L and I have come a long way with her agreeing to my suggestions. (Then again, I also changed my approach toward it, so that has helped!)

Congrats on all your successes and more to come! :D

Re: Ear cleaning

I didn't have any lavender oil on hand so I put a few drops of Rescue Remedy in olive oil. Nettle, you weren't playing around. I got a big hunk of wax dislodged with the oil! Wow! (Although I always trust whatever you say anyway so I'm really not surprised.) Thanks again. I'll be doing this every fe...

Re: Problems Seemingly Impossible To Solve

I do remember your first posts and you made such great progress with him. It breaks my heart to think of that lovely dog being forced to sit on a rug all day and yelled at if he tries to move.

I say buy him back.

Re: Razor eating habits!

PikiPiki it is against forum rules to recommend aversives such as bitter spray. Nevertheless, plenty of dogs love the taste of it! (Ew.) Siyah, has your dog consumed those items when you're not around? First order of business is to not let anything harmful be within her reach (HOW did she get to a r...

Re: eye contact & clicker training....

Ladybug if you don't feel comfortable withholding the click because you think it might be too long for him and take him out of his depth, then talk to him. I can tell with Murphy if he looks at someone a split second longer than usual that it's potential for a bad reaction. So I talk to him, tell hi...

Re: Raw Food Diet

Thanks for the info, Nettle, as usual. Mattie I learned from my sister not to get too crazy. She used to make people use hand sanitizer every time they touched her first baby. With her second one, she practically let her sleep on the floor of her apartment lobby! I think we're going to put bla...

Re: Raw Food Diet

This thread is over 1 1/2 years old and still going, and I have been trying for about that long to convince L that raw is the way to go. Well I think I've finally convinced her! We are stopping the bag of kibble after the current bag is done and giving Murphy homecooked and raw after that. (Raw as m...

Re: Ear cleaning

Oh! One more question. Murphy has been scratching the right ear so the skin inside is a little red. Should I avoid the vinegar in case it might irritate his skin further and just try the olive/lavender?
