Re: Teeth

I know mine are greedy sods but takes about 5-10 mins maximum for them to eat 200g of lamb breast or lamb spine even if it's partly frozen still so can't imagine it would take Jas long.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Tied a tug toy to cupboard door handle this morning to teach dogs to open the door. NO food kept in any of the cupboards the dogs can reach (except a few tins of beans etc which they don't bother with) so not too worried they will start to help themselves! We only did a minute or two but Pop and Be...

Re: Loose leash walking Vs stop'n'sniff

Perhaps also worth pointing out that it is far easier with one dog to allow stopping to sniff. With multiple dogs you often get NOWHERE fast, a queue forms for smelling so when one has finished sniffing and is impatient to move on, the back of the queue is only just getting nose to scent! Not to men...

Re: Loose leash walking Vs stop'n'sniff

Mine all stop and sniff but we will shortly be practising walking with pram = walk nicely and do not stop to sniff VS walk with person = you can stop/switch sides if you like. Mainly because I want to be able to get to the park along narrow pavements and it is dangerous if they are tangling me up al...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

I've spent the weekend dog sitting a 6 month old spaniel and a 9 week old Dachshund. Both adorable - but OH MY GOODNESS - do I know why it is a bad idea to have 2 puppies at once! Every 20 minutes I was getting up to let one or other of them out for a wee, or to break up rough play, or to stop them ...

Flooring Question!

We are putting new kitchen floor down and need ideas about whats best to replace it with. We have carpet in the rest of the house as less slippy for the dogs. Sasha has decided she doesn't like her crate in the bedroom anymore, so is back to sleeping in the kitchen for now, but it means she quite of...

Re: Vent!

Guess who got a new puppy for Xmas?????? Nope, not me. OH's parents. I'm fuming. It's a 17 week old Westie - second hand from someone whose "kid was allergic" had no jabs, and therefore not been outside so zero socialisation too     There really aren't even words to...

Can dogs be described as "manipulative"???

Yesterday the sofa was full because OH was asleep on it, and I was sitting at the other end. Pops was whinging at me, and she had been walked, eaten, done plenty during the day, so I couldn't for the life of me figure out what she wanted. Eventually she lay down on the floor, just out of reach, and ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Pops now has a very rapid (most of the time) "on your bed" command from anywhere in the room...We've developed a fun game with Poppy where I direct her around the room really quickly from one place to another e.g. On the sofa, on your bed, come here, touch target disc, on your bed, on the...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Pop and Charlie got a rabbit the other day, bit of a joint effort, but not going to help Poppys habit of sodding off hunting in the evenings *sigh* My own fault, she shouldn't have been off lead, but I feel so bad about most of their walks being in the dark at this time of year that I prefer to run ...

Not sure if photo will work but this is what I consider a good looking GSD https://www.facebook.com/OrmskirkDogWalking/photos/pb.532287530116555.-2207520000.1418997850./873342302677741/?type=3&theater My neighbours had traditional sloped back GSD's, police bred and considered healthy, and althou...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Belated happy birthday Jasper! He is gorgeous Judy! My dogs haven't been getting enough walks lately and it shows! The dark nights, hail storms, and being crazy busy with work mean they've been getting walks in the dark most of the time and so can't always go off lead. They get at least an 45 mins, ...

Re: Secondary reinforcers

Mine all know "good girl" or "good boy" to mean a treat is *likely* to be coming i.e. they will all look at me hopefully (and even recall  ) when I say it, regardless of which dog I'm talking too! I doubt, but I don't think we would ever know without brain scans, whether the...

Re: She's "poking the bear" constantly!

If she is ok when 10 or 15ft away then I would just be giving both dogs individual mats far enough away from each other (but close enough to you) for both to be happy. Assuming no food guarding issues you could also give both a chew or a Kong on their own mat to encourage them to stay there. I have ...
