Re: Dogs Might Fly - Sky1 UK

Horace's Mum I think it's something like 8 episodes, def worth getting the free trial later and having a binge watch ;) Really enjoying it so far, I think it's a great concept for a show that will appeal to a lot of people (and educate many a bit too); and like EB said promoting some really importan...

Re: Nosework (laying trails)

Yup, there's a big difference between searching, trailing and tracking.. Maybe Bax just enjoys searches more  or maybe he needs a bit more motivation to track. And bear in mind you cued him to search ;) This is how I was taught 'proper' tracking: To encourage the dog to keep his nose down and t...

Re: Gorgeous... but not for me

I do love Newfoundlands but there's no way I could cope with all that fur.. Short haired breeds with minimal grooming requirements only for me  I also really like Shar Peis but as Nettle says, health issues (and grooming), so not for me.

Re: If your dog were a person...

Ooh this is fun  I reckon P would be a bit of a rebel without a cause. One of those dangerous and attractive types ;) He'd be chasing girls and fighting boys. His handsome looks and cheeky charm would have the girls swooning, and he would always be respectful to women; but he'd be a complete ho...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Bragging post: Precious has passed UK Tracking Dog level 1 today, with flying colours (it's like TD but just tracking, for dogs who can't/ won't do Working Trials) :D We get a certificate! And a rosette! Who'd have thunk it.. Too exciting  If I do 2x level 2 and 3x level 3 he will get Qualified...

Re: Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

Thanks Nettle that's really helpful :D I was wondering if a self-soothing thing, and has now become a habit and she just does it now partly because 'it's just what I do' and partly it feels good/ is fun/ relieves stress/ is something to do..? The good news is they have reported that in the last coup...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Bless him Sanna! I have, our behaviourist advised BAT for her dog reactivity I'm a big fan of BAT but I think it's tricky unless you have access to a space you can control and suitable stooge dogs.. So for me, in 'real life', LAT is easier for most owners and dogs ;) Would you use LAT for literally...

Re: Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

Hey Sanna, Do they do much with her in terms of tiring out her brain? particularly if she's a busy girl. Nosework,or a sandpit so she can dig her ball out, not feeding out of a bowl...all of that kind of stuff? I think they def need to do more, have suggested some nose work and searching for her to...

Re: Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

I'm afraid I'm only really much use with dogs whose default state is either 40mph flat out, or flat out on the sofa  Haha I was thinking the same, I was so close to writing 'unlike P or Jasper who are either very much On or very much Off' I remember volunteering to test the Relaxation Pr...

Re: Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

Ah I was hoping you'd see this Judy :D I'm not sure treats are going to be useful here, and there's a danger that she will associate the treats with being left on her own which could make them even less effective as a reinforcement in other situations. Good point. The idea was that a Kong or chew wo...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Delladoo, are you familiar with LAT (Look At That)? Might be a good game to play with MiMi ;) Completely unrelated to anything, turns out P is scared of quacking ducks. Or more accurately, he's scared of duck quacking  Though it seems other variations of quacking and sqwauking and squeaking is ...

Separation distress and VERY fussy eater

Hi guys :D Wondering if your magnificent clever brains can help me out with something. A friend of a friend is after some help with their dog, and I'd like your opinion pretty please :) Dog in question is approx 2 yrs old, female, recently spayed, found as a stray so very little background history. ...

Re: Bacon

I sometimes use leftover bacon for treats, not very often (as I'm a terrible wife who only does a full English about twice a year.. ) but P has on occasion probably had about 2-3 rashers worth in one go with no side effects ;)

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Good news! Bax is now comfortable enough around people that when a stranger came through the door he barked twice and that was it. Bad news...... he loves people so much now that he gets excited and jumps high enough to kick them in the crotch............... :( Great news indeed :D great job! (I no...
