Re: Fear aggression - some questions

Best advice I got was to go at the dog’s pace, and help him along the way instead of pushing him out of his comfort zone.... which included stepping back at times and giving him the space he needs. Everything takes time. I think once we realized that, and accepted that there are good days, bad days,...

Very sorry. Time is the best healer, but it works slowly.
Hang in there, and come talk to us.

Baby Miles - off leash with many other dogs (and non-dogs)

So great to be able to let the puppy run free! I wonder how long this will last (he is still very much just a baby Ridgeback, at still not even 6 months old) http://aritheridgeback.yolasite.com/resources/05112019/B-1.jpg http://aritheridgeback.yolasite.com/resources/05112019/B-2.jpg http://aritherid...

Baby Miles - busy Saturday (alert - lots of pictures)

Rain expected on Sunday, so we wanted to have as much outdoors fun on Saturday as we could: Morning walk in the nature park. Not really a walk - running, trying to meet dogs (some ignored Baby Miles, much to his disappointment), getting way too deep into water (literally). http://aritheridgeback.yol...

Re: What Can You Add?

If the dog wears a tag with owner’s cell phone number in case she gets lost and someone finds her - add one with A’s contact number. If the dog has a microchip - owner can add A to the list of people listed as contacts for the microchip. If there are neighbors close by - they should be made aware of...

Re: Introducing a demmel

With Baby Miles - no issues holding his paws, checking between the toes, etc... anything, really - no problems, no objections. Dremmel, however... We can manage 1 paw at a time, but this is far from "whoopee". I have a feeling that the key is moving forward very slowly, 1st touching nail w...

Re: Introducing a demmel

“Whoopee, dremmel time” may take a while... We got Ari to the point of tolerating it reluctantly while consuming a lot of cheese. Miles at this point seems much worse. He wants the cheese and he also wants to hide his feet from the dremmel, and it appears he wants to hide his feet more. So unfortuna...

Ridgeback and the City

Well, not exactly That City, but still a walk in one of local towns, stopping for drinks (most stores are dog-friendly and have water bowls), sniffing flowers, meeting humans, meeting shopping bags http://aritheridgeback.yolasite.com/resources/04132019/B-DSC_0524.jpg http://aritheridgeback.yolasite....

Re: Weaning off afternoon walks

There are these balls which you can fill with treats. The dog is supposed to roll it, and as he rolls is - treats fall out and dog can eat them. So how about this: Get 2 of these balls, a bag of treats, and a chair to sit on in the back yard. Fill one ball with treats, throw it for J to catch and ro...
