Re: Getting a second dog
Hmm... You are killjoys, emmabeth and Nettle :D :D We were thinking of adding the second dog when the first one is 18 months. He is a ridgeback male, so we thought of a female but still a ridgeback, main reason being that once Ridgebacks get 2-3 hours of physical and intellectual exercise per day, t...

Re: Dog park etiquette question
Many thanks, Erica and jacksdad. I agree that to err on the side of caution is perhaps the best approach, which does indeed mean stopping the interaction if not 100% sure that there is no potential for a confrontation. But I don't necessarily agree with a suggestion that humans should step in on be...

Dog park etiquette question
Hello! May I ask for opinions ? This question popped up in my mind earlier today, while observing my own boy (12 months, 90 lbs ridgeback Ari) at a dog playground. It was a lazy late morning, not too many dogs.. Ari wondered around for a little while, then set his sights on this lovely girl - which ...

This will probably be a dissenting view... But I listened to a few podcasts, and, to be honest, I thought that there is too much Holly and not enough Victoria...

Re: Aggression to just 1 particular dog, need advice
Many thanks to all who commented! Very much appreciated. Will try to avoid contact for the foreseeable future. Come to think of it - this could be a plot for one of It's Me or The Dog episodes, right? Two bitter 4 legged enemies, ready to rip each other to pieces every time they cross paths, living ...

Second dog - same breed?
Hello! Next spring our Rhodesian Ridgeback boy Ari will be 18 months old, and we'll give some serious thought to getting a second dog. Our questions so far - should it be the same breed or different? Does it matter at all? Should it a least be of similar temperament (for example - Ridgebacks need to...

Re: potty training & obsession help!
Hi there! When we got our puppy ridgeback, for the first month I slept downstairs on the sofa, next to the crate where he slept. We had an alarm clock set to go off every 4 hrs or so, and I would wake up and take him outside, even if he was just sleeping... Then we stopped the alarm clock, but I sti...

Aggression to just 1 particular dog, need advice
Hello! We have a 12 months old unneutered ridgeback. He's been well socialized, with dogs and humans. He enjoys dog park, but also feels comfortable walking a busy street in downtown, with cars going by, lots of people on sidewalks, waiting for green lights at intersections, etc. There are other unn...

Enjoy your new puppy! Our ridgeback Ari just turned 12 months. He is still a puppy, but no longer looks like one. Post some pictures of Samson.

Re: Rhodesian ridgeback
Ari destroys all his toys. Even the ones that were advertised as "indestructible" :D So, we have to keep checking, especially with stuffed toys and toys with squeakers. When a toy is getting close to give in and be ripped apart, we have to take it away, otherwise we'll have a squeaky ridge...

Re: Rhodesian ridgeback
Our ridgeback Ari just turned 12 months. We tried very hard to socialize him with people and other dogs since he was just 3-4 months, and it paid off. He is very sweet, although still a bit protective of what he thinks is his domain… which includes the house he lives in, of course, as well as all ot...
