Re: VERY young pups lost their mom. Advice?

Thank you for the advice, I have passed it on. I have chatted with her and found out that her mother was considering keeping one of the pups before, but now since the mom passed, my friend is trying to convince her mother to keep THE TWO GIRLS so they can keep each other company, and so she can cudd...

VERY young pups lost their mom. Advice?

I am asking this for a friend of mine, who didn't necessarily ask me for help, but who I think will need it. Her mom's dog got pregnant - unplanned when some of the kids came home from college for the summer with their dogs and stayed with her (and I am going to keep my mouth shut about letting inta...

Re: Oh no. Just figured it out - Murphy is guarding me.

L and I have both read this thread. Thank you for the encouragement and the advice. I am going to be off the board for a bit while we figure things out. But I will be back for an update at some point.

Oh no. Just figured it out - Murphy is guarding me.

Our first full day with Murphy, as I said in my intro post, he barked at our newborn son, River, when he was crying in L's arms. I was in the middle of the couch with L and River on one side and Murphy on the other and was able to body-block him with my shoulder when he barked. Tonight, Murphy was n...

Re: Help - My dog is Unwalkable!

I think Fundog had this issue with one or both of her girls. She'll probably be on soon to send you a link to her post showing how she curbed it. Meanwhile it will behoove you to learn how to read your dog. Do a search on canine body language. Google Turgid Rugaas, the trainer who has studied it. Le...

Re: Raw eggs?

I give him raw or cooked but more often raw. I give I'm shells sometimes but he just licks the egg part out of it and leaves he shell. So to keep things nearer I leave it off now. And sorry yes I agree with jacksdad, wait until he's over the diarrhea. If you stick with kibble make sure you don't ove...

Re: Raw eggs?

If you partially cook any chicken and give it to your dog, were the pieces boneless? Just to be safe they should be.

Re: Raw eggs?

I am transitioning to full time raw and homecooked. Before this, I used to give my dogs an occasional raw chicken leg. More often I would reduce his kibble to half and add a raw egg. I never noticed any disruption in his "regularity" if you will. So go for it.

Re: vegetarian / vegan dog foods...

I will be honest, I don't get the some of moral reasons people feel/believe in terms choosing not to eat meat. I comprehend the argument, I just don't see the moral "issue". But hey, I don't have to in order to acknowledge your freedom to choose, right? Much like you or I don't have to &q...

Re: Problems Seemingly Impossible To Solve

That CM thing is a whoooooole other debate. The dogs he "rehabilitates" are shut down. They stop reacting to avoid the punishment, not because they've changed their minds about the thing they were afraid of. It is a huge thing in the training world - the old school dominance training vs th...

Re: What's the substance that discourages them from eating poop?

The pineapple was used for the dog to stop eating his own poop. If you want your dog to stop eating cat poop, sorry you'll have to keep the litter box out of reach.

Re: Dog Scootering a journey

It certaintly sounds more proactive than my current, "at MY speed, WALK." She takes off like a sprinter, often reaching the end of her leash before I have even gotten one foot off of the sidewalk. Sometimes I get lazy and let Murphy get in front of me a little bit - that way ...
