Re: Update on Horus!!
Em I would die if I had to keep time to that!! It is a great piece of music I admit, and I did want upbeat and smiley music, but that is just a wee bit too much methinks    One of my patients suggested skateboarder boy (or something like that, haven't looked it up yet!) if I wanted to...

Update on Horus!!
Hello!! I've been away from here for far too long, been trying to get my practice open at home as well as bringing up the 2 babies and managing H!! Thought you might like to hear how my boy is doing these days. He's been with me now for 4 1/2 years. Seems like forever. We have had to stop agility tr...

Re: Special Need Dogs
Having a so called special needs dog in almost every way (deaf AND social skills issues AND trust issues with people due to abuse) I would say as strongly as I can that sometimes it is harder than you can ever imagine and there WILL be days when you just won't want to do it anymore. You also need to...

Re: I need something uplifting
I would suggest assuming that this is him, and accept it, for a good six months. don't think about it, don't battle with it, just accept. You might just find things change anyway, and if they don't you haven't lost anything. Big hugs xxxxxx

Re: I need something uplifting
Hi Judy, I haven't been on for a while and just came on to find your post. My heart goes out to you. You know I have been in similar situations with my boy in the past, and I have to live with the fact that he still has it in him to attack if he misunderstands something. It is so hard when you do ev...

Re: Modifying a muzzle
Snap, I also removed a little crosspiece at the bottom of the nose part, and it never affected the function of the muzzle. Put your muzzle on and look to see where the mouth would open - that is where you need to cut. I would agree on using smaller/softer treats too - but also much higher value ones...

Re: Gossip and Oya
Well we had a really good day yesterday, so you've got an early update!! I picked up my friend's lorry yesterday for the show on Saturday, and decided to spend some time getting the ponies used to it before taking them on a longer trip to Penrith. Gossip bless him more or less walked straight up, st...

Re: Considerations for dog agility?
Don't rush into going faster/tighter/higher until she is really ready and knows exactly what she is doing. Keep her as fit as you can with lots of walks especially over rough ground, and keep her weight down to reduce any strain. When training keep exercises short with breaks in between, and vary it...

Re: Running alongside a bike
Horus runs alongside my bike on an attachment - not offlead because it isn't suitable where we live. But he has never shown any interest in other bikes, and still doesn't. Surprising really, even when they whizz up behind him he never reacts - about the only thing he has never bothered about!!

Re: My little pity party.
Ouch!! I'm a bit behind the times, but agree with all the advice for ice - 10mins every half hour, don't leave it on longer or you may start to cause further damage. While you're there, rub an ice cube over each bite, or put cold on them for several minutes (sometimes works better if you can put dry...

Re: rescued blind dog(st bernard)
Speaking as an owner of a deaf dog, with many friends with blind or deaf or blind AND deaf dogs, there is no reason to treat him any different to a normal dog once you know he is healthy in himself. You may like to teach him things like "step up" to let him know when there is a kerb or som...

Re: Squishy poos!
Regarding guarding and RMBs, have you tried getting lots of big bones and giving him one every day for a while? I did notice that when I first gave H his big bones (we get what I call dinosaur bones from the butcher, they are massive cow legs, I know they are usually too hard but it is the only thin...
