Re: Is it normal for our rescue dog to neglect my wife/other people?

It is also not uncommon for rescue dogs to form an over-attachment to a rescuer. It might not be the case here (I'm not an expert), and please don't take this the wrong way, but it's something to bear in mind. It's fantastic that you've bonded so well with her and given her a good home :D but it's n...

Re: Walks- Staying on 1 side, and close vs. follow

Hmm I think I would try to simplify it and make it clearer for her- I felt a little confused just reading your explanation so is it possible it's a bit confusing to her too..? maybe think about what excactly you want her to do, and work from there- for example I'm guessing 'come' is you recall...

Re: The trading game

yeah i just tried to work on drop it with him....... it did not go well.... total disinterest in even looking at any of my offerings... and then spastically ignoring me when i brought out his hippo. (Hippo is saved for very special occasions) I think when i was working on drop it before with less v...

Re: The trading game

Swapping is great for building trust and for emergencies, and it's great that Bax is happily swapping :D but if it was me I'd want to build on that to teach 2 other things instead: a nice retrieve (kikopup has a nice tutorial on how to teach your dog to retrieve any item, if memory serves, and maybe...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

He's Captain Sensible compared to some lurchers, Sanna (and compared to the summer he found about 6 different ways to nearly kill himself  ) Well done with the sendaways - how do you train them?' How did I miss the adventures of suicidal Jasper    ?! The way I've done s...

Re: Vent!

2 hours ago while quietly walking my dogs, I was body-slammed by a bullmastiff. Lucky not to break my leg. Lucky I didn't quite fall over. Avatar Lady with the permanently lame leg got chased. I managed to get Babydog on lead (she could outrun it but she gets panicky when attacked - who doesn't?). ...

Poor old Jasper- he's a bit accident prone isn't he..? My friends lurcher X lab is the same. Hope he feels better soon! I keep meaning to post but I enjoy lurking and reading about what you guys are all up to instead, your stories tend to be better than mine these days (I must've gotten a lot ...

Re: Lightweight/low profile harness?

The Balance one might work, if not I'm wondering if there's a way you can DIY amend it or your Perfect Fit- maybe it'd be possible to change the chest strap that goes between the front legs for something flatter and softer..? Just thinking out loud here, not very good with stuff like that personally...

Re: Choosing breeds?

I was going to suggest a rescue dog as well ;) And Judy is right, many good rescues will arrange transport to get dogs to the right home. It might be worth taking the fact that neither of you drive into consideration when you decide on what size dog/ breed to get- if you potentially have to rely on ...

Re: What should I use as a reward?

He can have absolutely no unmedicated food, vegetables included. The entirety of his meal needs to be given within half an hour of his medication but because of his size and breed, I am not comfortable feeding him so close to exercise in case of bloat. I understand your concerns and how this compli...

Re: What should I use as a reward?

Ok so what does he like? What are his favourite things to do? Or, if he would work best for a food reward but because of the medical issues you can't give extras- would it work to take his meals out with you (rather than feed from a bowl at home)? So he'd still get the correct and safe amount but he...
