Re: Dog Food Brands

As far as bacteria: practice the same level of hygiene and sanitation that you would when preparing meals for yourself and your family. It really doesn't have to get complicated. :) That is awesome. lol It is all complicated to me. I have a hard time figuring out human nutrition.. It is about the s...

Re: Dog Food Brands

Hmm.. I think I will have to do more research. lol I would so love to feed the puppy, but I have to be careful. lol No pizza crusts for my puppy. Obesity is an awful trait for my breed. Have you guys ever worried about a dog eating raw things.. and then licking you or other things and spreading thos...

Re: Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

When you observe puppy classes, go with your gut instinct - if anything vaguely bothers you, give it some good thought, because your instincts will be sound. Inexperience should not make you waver as often inexperience gives clarity. You need to major on empathy. Do you like what those puppies are ...

Re: Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

Yep, starting at 10 weeks should be fine! A class should welcome someone who's doing research ahead of time :) Obviously you ask the trainer ahead of time and not just show up randomly, but as long as you're unobtrusive yep sitting in on a class should be fine! I went to a few before I chose one. I...

Re: Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

The short version is: go to a few different classes, see which ones you like the feel of more, take notes to compare them. An instructor should welcome your questions, though they may be busy at the time and ask you to email or call them later. I would not attend a class that doesn't allow you to s...

Re: Dog Food Brands

Yikes! I was always taught that things like chicken bones would hurt the puppy or rip and tear things. Did it work out? The chicken legs? Do you feed them to him raw and none cooked? Does it lose its nutrition if you cook the meat? I did read that article. But it seems like I have so so very much mo...

Re: Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

Usually first checkups are for obvious problems. A schnauzer's eye conditions are the type that develop over time, not something you'll see in a puppy unless there is a major problem. I chose my current vet because I was impressed with them when taking a dogsitting client's dog in. Asking around wi...

Re: Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

i will mention though that you should make sure you like the techs there to, not just the vet. Bax never really sees the vet but he sees the techs constantly (he gets his nails done there). They've been a huge part of his socialization and he LOVES going there because of them. They always stop for ...

Re: Dog Food Brands

If you raw feed, you don't need to give carbs at all. The amount of veg isn't critical - some people don't feed any at all. You might want to look at ready-made raw food, as discussed here: http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22466 It's the best of both worlds, in a way - the benefi...

Re: Dog Food Brands

Thank you both so much! If I were to do a the cooked/raw diet, how do you know how much say meat to give versus carbs? And how many veggies and stuff? And or what sort of other nutritional things dogs may need? Like, do they need high calcium foods, or fiber? Or certain vitamins? I will definitely c...

Veterinarians - Choosing one and First check ups

So, I will be a new dog owner, which means I do not have a veterinarian. What I have been doing so far is asking pet owners I know, who they go to and why they like them. But I was wondering if you guys had any advice on how to pick the right vet for you and your dog. Because I am getting a puppy fr...

Re: Dog Food Brands

Oh that makes sense. I am a little bit afraid of the raw food. But I would have no problem feeding a puppy/dog cooked meas and raw veggies or sometimes cooked veggies. I am not big on the bones (because I am worried about splinters and hurting the puppy) the raw meat and eggs make me worry about sal...

I second what Nettle said. I enjoy these updates!
And Delta is adorable! I love that cut on him! He is very handsome!!!!

The cording sounds like it is a lot of work, but I am not sure if it is less or more work than what you are use to...

Dog Food Brands

I am just curious if you guys have a list of good dog food brands (as I know some foods will help your dog be at his/her best, while more inexpensive brands tend to not be so good for the puppies). I also want to know which brands have the most recalls or something wrong? What is safe? When you are ...

Re: Whisker Watch

Thank you!!! I appreciate the help and advice!!

:D If you ever find a good explanation of the bucket thing, I would totally like to see it. T

Those scissors do look like they would be much better. What do you do to get the hairs you cut out of his ears? Just brush them away with your fingers?
