Re: Favorite Dog Names

Thing about a name is that it needs to be something you don't feel bashful about when bawling it out somewhere in the wilderness where bunnies and squirrels abound. I like the simplicity of names for working dogs, especially collies. It's usually one syllable like Bess, Moll, Tib, or Bell, Jack, or ...

Re: Their unique way to communicate with us

@ Nayra. Hi, the easiest way I think is to open an account with Photobucket, (or some other picture host) and upload your pictures into your account. It's all free!! Once your pictures are there, the process of copying the link is fairly user friendly. Copy the link, (right click) and then paste it ...

No, I think it's just a streetwise German Shepherd.

"It's walk time. Now". http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z422/FlybyPC/Dog%20Pics%203/WalkTime.jpg Odin can sometimes say quite complex things, like "Respirator or not, I'm having your bobble hat". http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z422/FlybyPC/Bobblehat_zps6b3e7148.jpg ...

Re: Dudley's Tail

It is a sad tale. I have a hardened mentality to some degree coming from a farming background when I was young. That doesn't mean I don't care, but after a few lambings, you get accustomed to mortality in young animals. You know the vast, vast majority will be fine and healthy, but you also know all...

Re: quirky things we love.

Well Odin's quirks are fairly evident, and have been there fully developed from an early age. http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z422/FlybyPC/Sentinel_zpsd8758dc4.jpg Little Pip is just full of quirks, but the one that gets me is impossible to photo, and you never have the camera running to catch i...

Re: OT Spring.

I'll try them. I did put out fat balls, but the bits dropped below the cage, (and the cages themselves) were encouraging rats. I switched to the same stuff in pellet form, which disappears like snow off a dyke so the birds get fed but the rats get nothing. I'll start putting out some fat balls again...

Re: Ari is stumped by a strange dog

Hmmm, I've seen terriers do a kind of horizontal pounce against big dogs. I haven't seen it as a pose, but a terrier will punch above it's weight, but punch above it's height too when the need arises. I take the owners word for it. Edit - It also reminds me of a film I once saw, no idea what it was ...

OT Spring.

March last year was one of the best months of the year, warm and sunny end to end, but this year we've still getting snow and minus temperatures and it seems like Spring is never coming. I found a poor little Dunnock lying dead in the yard this morning, (just a little wild bird) just couldn't hold o...

Re: Semantics - words words words

Well once upon a time, someone came up with the word 'b itch', and you begin to realise what grand little word it is, (even if it's unfortunately somewhat abused these days). :)

Re: SPARCS Origin in the Wild conference

"It is widely accepted that dogs are descended from wolves, but that is about the only uncontroversial fact about the origins of dogs". Is it? I thought the current thinking was that wolves and dogs share a common ancestor which was neither a dog nor a wolf. Both have evolved down separate...
