Re: House training

Laufey is a 5 month old pug x poodle. We get up about half 6 and go out in the yard (we don't really have a garden, just a small yard) to try and get him to pee, usually we're out there for about half an hour before giving in and he comes inside and pees on his paper. Whenever we're in the back door...

House training

Think I could have made a mistake. When we first got Laufey he couldn't make it down the step into the yard so we put newspaper on some Lino over the carpet by the back door. The paper training went so-so as expected but I think he's slightly pee-shy as if he can go where we can't see hinge will cho...

Re: Puppy out and about

These are definitely things to think about, thank you. I don't think I'm too bothered about trying to make him 'friends' with Sadie, in all honesty I'm sort of hoping the neighbours move but better the devil you know. I think possibly I am sort of hoping that Laufey could give Sadie some training be...

Re: Puppy out and about

I am so very proud, and he's always rewarded for recall, even if that's not what I was looking for (read as we were playing fetch and he forgets the ball and he keeps coming back before I can shout him to build recall). I need to find some good, small high quality treats for him too, so far I'm usin...

Re: Puppy out and about

This is a really helpful video and I'm definitely going to try it, although I'm not sure what toys he would rank higher, he doesn't seem fussy so long as he can have. Surprisingly I've sort of been doing this off lead anyway without realising, in the park where we go there are always new smells and ...

Re: Grass and straw

I'm not sure if he's due for a worming or not but we're at the vets for a flea treatment on Tuesday so I can find out then, I'm hoping it's just him being a scavenger because he has to pick up absolutely everything he finds when we're on walks too - including sweets children have dropped and I've no...

Re: Puppy out and about

Afternoon, just an update Our walk this morning was much calmer, there was nowhere near as much pulling, although I seem to have taught more of just a loose lead than a heel as he is not next to me. His recall is getting better, today he didn't bother the people playing tennis although he did bother...

Re: Grass and straw

Thank you for the advice :D He gets carrot daily (when we feed the rabbits he has to have some too or he gets very unhappy) he also gets cabbage sometimes and he enjoys apple. I haven't tried broccoli or cucumber so I'll try those too, we don't often but cauliflower but I could try that also. My fir...

Grass and straw

Hello all, I was just wondering how bad it is for Laufey to eat straw and grass? When we're out at the park he is constantly eating the grass, even in the middle of playing a game and then at home he pulls the straw out of the rabbit runs and what he can find on the floor. He has loads of toys and i...

Re: Puppy out and about

oo I might try this touch trick as it seems like it could be very useful to get him to do other stuff too. I did buy him a clicker and he seems to have the hang of it, and surprisingly my hand eye coordination doesn't seem to be too bad either! The harness arrived just under a week ago now and, comb...

Re: Puppy out and about

This is one of the more helpful videos I've seen, thank you. However would dropping treats on the floor to encourage walking with me also encourage him to pick things up off the floor? I'm unsure how I'd be able to both drop treats to encourage the walking and discourage the picking up discarded ite...

Puppy out and about

Hi, Laufey is a 21 week old pug x poodle who I'm starting to dislike walking. This in no way means I'm not or I've stopped, we still go out every day between half an hour to an hour (depending on how out of hand he gets) and I am desperate to get him out more as the weather is getting nicer, however...

Hi

Hi! I'm Della, a 20 year old uni student living in the UK I'm not a first time owner, although this is the first puppy I can really remember and there are a couple of areas I could really use some advice on, hence why I'm here. Any and all advice will be gratefully received and whilst I'm, admittedl...
