Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Wow, I've been missing for quite a while! I didn't mean to be. We've stagnated in some ways as I've been pretty ill this year. Since January I've had a persistent cough that is baffling doctors so whist we're still attending our usual training sessions and we've done a few competitions I've not real...

Re: Losing top coat
I just wanted to revisit this post just over a year on. I have since tidied up my photo bucket so will relink all of the photos for reference soon. Looking back with the knowledge we now have, I'm still confident it wasn't fleas, or if they were a factor they definitely weren't the main issue for Mi...

Re: Raw Food Diet
Laufey doesn't have consistent poos either, although MiMi's are much better (don't ask me how as she will only eat the bits she fancies that day!). Do his crumbly poops correspond to his bone meals? I know Laufey doesn't do as well having more bone less often so generally he will have a wing segment...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
This afternoon we braved the masses and went for a walk with both dogs. There's a huge wood-ish area leading from a hotel and the zoo all the way out to neighbouring villages (we've never been that far yet) and it has some wonderful walks. We were slightly concerned it would be busy but chose the ar...

Re: Raw Food Diet
MiMi doesn't always poo every day. On average Laufey goes once a day so I wouldn't be worried unless it was a longer period of time sans pooping

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
That is a great start delladooo. Thanks MPB! The new crate arrived so now we've got two, both with blankets, and they're both taking to curling up in them. Laufey will pick me over the crate but MiMi doesn't really like to sit with you anyway and has picked the crate. Plus when I got home today the...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Seems like I didn't need to bother about MiMi and a crate. I put a blanket in it (we didn't have one as we were feeding Laufey in it) and now she's happily curled up in it asleep. She'll need encouragement that it's the best place in the world but getting her into it isn't an issue.

Re: Raw Food Diet
Bone wise, Laufey gets chicken bits, duck bits, pork ribs. I bought some lamb neck but yet to use it (and I guess pork would be bigger) as it seems a little big for him. The other forum advice of soaking the pork would draw the salt out. The water being warm will help speed it up but isn't necessary...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Unfortunately not Shalista, upstairs is off limits when unsupervised, partly so the cats have an escape and partly because she can go up but now down stairs. I do think a crate will work for her if I can find something to act as the reward. Before she came to us, we were told she was quite happy to ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Does Mimi have a bed she really likes that you could put in the crate? Are there any games she likes that could be played in the crate? I don't imagine it's big enough for you to fit in, but I'm thinking you could waggle a small toy through the bars at the back of the crate. Is there anything else ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Change is afoot in our house at the minute. Last summer, my mum lost her beloved French Lop rabbit and he left behind his "rabbit wife" a little Netherlands Dwarf. Sadly, she has passed away too in the last week after a very fast decline. Mum was looking for a Continental Giant since aroun...

Re: Raw Food Diet
My bad, as Fundog says if he's a little chunky a lower percentage will be good for him. That early in the day doesn't help me think! Although I think it's best to avoid whole bones for a week or so, plenty of people do give them from the start. On a personal note, I added bone for both Laufey and Mi...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Shalista I don't know whether to be amused or horrified! I can't imagine having snow that bad!! Did Bax enjoy the snow at least? For the past two weeks, our Tuesday walks have been met with hail stones. Mum is claiming we're not having an adventure met Tuesday so we can't have a random third occuran...

Re: Raw Food Diet
For portion control you want to be feeding (as an average starting point) 2.5% of his body weight assuming he's at a good weight (I can't remember at the minute if you said he wasn't, forgive me it's not even 5am yet). As Erica says best to not cut it up if he's quite happy to chew it. I'm glad you ...
