I don't have any info on raw feeding, but Fundog mentioned store brand dog food vs. high end dog food. I know a little about that. Some friends of mine are in a family of truck drivers. When I mentioned the research I had been doing on dog foods when I got Luka they started telling me about their tr...

Raise the baby gate just enough to make it taller, but not enough for him to stick his head (and get it stuck) under it. Or they sell taller gates that actually have a door built in so even though it's too tall for your to get over, but the door allows you to get through. We tried raising the gate,...

New Pup Jumping the Gate

I got a new puppy yesterday- not my first choice but he was in a bad situation here in my little town so I took him. My daughter is thrilled though, lol. The new pup is an 8 month old male mixed breed. He is part Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Miniature American Eskimo, and who knows what else. He's small- ...

I had the same thing happen with my puppy's Kong a few months ago. What worked for me was taking a spoon and shoving the back end (not the spoon end) through the small hole in the Kong. It will push the stick right out.

I went to see the dog, bringing Luka with us. Unfortunately we had to come home without her. She was a beautiful dog and loved my daughter, but growled at me, then a few minutes later tried to bite me when I was petting her. Bite- not playful nip. She didn't like Luka one bit either- tried to attack...

Thank you for your replies!

I will do as you both suggested- although I want another dog I want to make sure the dog will fit in and be happy.

If we bring her home I imagine I will have lots of questions to post!

Getting a new dog- Questions

Tomorrow I am going to see a border collie that I am considering adding to our family. We currently have 5 month old Luka, a male lab/blue heeler mix. Luka is not yet altered, but will be having his surgery toward the end of November. The dog we are considering is a 3 year old female border collie. ...

My 2 cents- In addition to doing what has already been suggested, it would be good for you to drive over and work with Sasha a few times a week yourself using Victoria's methods. While your dad may refuse to watch the show or read the book it would be difficult to ignore what you are doing right in ...

Where I live the average temperature in the winter is between 10 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit (12 C to -6 C) and we get snow a few inches at a time all winter (seems like the day the snow dries from the last snowfall we can expect more that night). He has a lab coat- I read that labs have an undercoat ...

Does he need a coat?

Winter is fast approaching (expecting snow this weekend!) and I'm wondering if my pup (Luka) needs a doggy sweater or coat. Luka is a labrador/blue heeler mix and looks like a lab. He'll still need to go for walks when its so cold out, and I'm not sure if he needs extra warmth or not.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I will follow the directions in the post about loose-leash walking and walk him myself from now on. My daughter will be happy- she prefers not to walk him and I guess I can't blame her, lol. We live in a trailer park but there is a street nearby that has very litt...

My pup, Luka, does the same thing when I have to push him off the couch. He goes nuts- running around like crazy, lunging and snapping at us. I figured he was just mad that he couldn't be where he wants to be :) What is working for us- I've been teaching him "off" and when he voluntarily g...

Puppy Pulling with Daughter- need advice

I have a 5 month old Labrador/Australian Cattle Dog mix. We are still working with him on pulling and its become a real problem when my 12 yr old walks him. When I walk him, I stop whenever he starts to pull. He's figuring out that pulling gets him no-where with me, but this morning when my daughter...
