Re: Saw this today

They should just put all their focus on turning every single dog into a German Spitz - problem solved! Would also solve the GS inbreeding issue that is just horrifically rampant in almost all KC breeding programs. Reason I could never get another one - Japanese Spitz on the other hand, healthy as a ...

Re: Let's talk sighthounds

Leads aren't always that effective anyway. The ex coursing greyhound was on a lead. Managed to nab a pidgeon. I mean, all credit to her working ability, the bird didn't suffer...

Re: Let's talk sighthounds

You don't have to walk sighthounds on a muzzle. Most muzzled ones you see are retired racers / coursers so they are a danger to wildlife. I think we also all know why Mr Grumpypants Jasper is muzzled. My old Lurcher never needed a muzzle, most whippets I meet don't have one. An ex courser grey...

Re: Previous Dog Syndrome

Well having a dog aggressive double b*tch household I must admit I am waaay more wary when it comes to dog-dog interactions than most other owners. Whenever I see any tension my 'omg step in before there is bloodshed' reflex kicks in and I interrupt. But on the other hand those other dog owners spea...

Re: Let's talk sighthounds

I always thought Afghan hounds are aloofness personified, and are pretty dense.

Re: Let's talk sighthounds

Could the whippet have had a bit of Bedlington in it? It's a common cross and there's not a lot of difference between a Bedlington and a lamb... at least, physically  Could have been, but it would have been a few generations ago. He was fairly old, absolutely lovely little whippet. One of my d...

Re: Let's talk sighthounds

My old Lurcher wanted nothing more than to have his head in your lap all day long... Strangers? He gave zero sh*ts. Out of all the sighthounds I've met, I think only two have asked for a stroke, and I think really they were assuming it would get them the chicken in my treat bag. :D One lovely ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Awwww, that is such a staffy thing to do. I must admit I really do like them as a breed, but they're a bit too muscle bound for me to have one. :D Merlin and a staffy have a little routine going. On a particular bench me and mum sit down for a drink, to entertain himself Merlin collects sticks into ...

Awwww, I bet it was terrifying though! I've seen greyhounds full zoom, like crazy horses coming full pelt at you.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

He has no concept of danger. He jumps first, ask questions later. It doesn't always end well. He falls over / skids face first along the floor A LOT

On the plus side, his knee is looking pretty good. :D

Haha! They do look a bit 'ruff' later in life, especially if they are shaved down so we can see their old man wrinkly faces.

Re: Could you do it?

Personally as long as the dog is happy and healthy throughout its life, no matter how long or short, then I would consider a shorter lived breed (generally giant breeds) if I wanted one. If people were concerned only with the length of life for their pets then everyone would own a chihuahua.
