Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Wind, rain, mud... Everyone I meet is complaining about the weather. After months on end of being restricted by my bad knee, in the last few weeks I've been able to get out on proper walks and can now walk as far as I ever could over any terrain... and I'm absolutely revelling in it! Bring on the we...

Oh wow, what lovely - and lucky - pups, Erica You must be so excited about finally getting your Picard too.
I'm your friend on FB (though I mostly lurk) but I've just realised it's not been showing me your posts for ages. How's Delta doing?

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Aw, thank you Nettle  Predictably, he was grumpy with a few dogs this morning  But in his defence, he was on lead on a path where he can be more likely to snark (used a lot when he was an angry adolescent so I think he has an association), the first dog was a bulldog - not a breed he like...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Perfection is overrated :-) Just as well, really  Though OH was also singing his praises after a persistent bouncy lab tried again and again to get him to play on this morning's walk - he started off just ignoring him, building up through dirty looks, a curled lip and a bit of a growly warnin...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Jasper has been ridiculously well behaved over Xmas and New Year  We all managed to open presents without him 'helping', he didn't whine for us to hurry up and finish so he could clean the plates at lunch, or pester for his walk... and he barely lifted an eyebrow when DS2's fiancee's parents ...

Re: Excellent lurcher article
Quite possibly the fact that for the sake of my sanity I wouldn't have a collie cross but would take on a saluki cross or even full saluki at the drop of a hat suggests that I've already lost my sanity  It'd be interesting to compare the personality and even political leanings of 'collie x' and...

Excellent lurcher article
This article is by Jackie Drakeford, so it was bound to be excellent - but she really does describe the lurcher personality so well: https://www.shootinguk.co.uk/gundogs/gundog-breeds/cross-breeds-dogs-89677?fbclid=IwAR0Y4D6yFz3IC_hX9GKyMxzd_nzObMg2Y3_MYiuXbDS89xqUr3f7i96JsoU The only bit that made ...

Re: Dog whistle
I found this online: https://wagwalking.com/training/stop-barking-with-a-whistle So the idea is that the whistle is being used as a distractor. However, that article says 'Whistles emit sounds between 23 and 46 kHz, making the high-pitched sound unpleasant to your dog's ears, and making whistles a p...

Re: Baby Miles - encounters, and a scary thought
Say goodbye to all ornaments that aren't nailed down - your house would be wrecked!! And dealing with two 40-plus-kg lovelorn dogs desperate to get to each other at any cost.... Yup, you must be mad. Can't wait to see the photos    BTW, are you assuming that two intact well-soci...

Re: Doesn’t Play With Toys
My dog isn't that interested in toys either, though he does occasionally enjoy chewing rope limbs off them, or removing their squeaks. Keep giving yours opportunities - he may get into toys once he's had longer to settle in, or me may simply not be interested, which is fine too. Personally I'd be wa...

Re: Adopted an Overweight Dog
Glad to help Obviously you'll need to be careful with any indoor agility if he might have back issues - I'm sure your vet will advise. 'Spin' (rotate clockwise) and 'twirl' (anticlockwise) can be good for back health and are fun to teach but again, check with your vet first.

Re: Adopted an Overweight Dog
Have a search for 'indoor agility dogs' on the internet - that returns seeral sites with good ideas. I also like hide & seek - the way we do it is I'll show my dog an object (one of his toys, a slipper, etc.), say 'hide and seek', ask him to wait, then go & hide it in another room. Then I ca...

Re: 'Good' vs 'bad' dogs
From there  I'd say the person who has experienced the more difficult dog behaviours is more appreciative of the delightful ones Sadly, the person I've been arguing against most thinks that the most difficult dogs don't deserve to live... She - and possibly others - seem to think I'm saying t...
