Re: herding breeds

We have a 1 1/2 year old Aussie and I have to agree with the above poster, Aussie's (as well as the herding breeds in general) are typically more reserved with strangers and loving/close to their people. Ours has never bitten anyone, but has a pretty mean sounding "big girl bark" and doesn...

Re: Frustrated with differing opinions on spaying

Thank you guys so much for the info and your support! It's just been really difficult when all I'm hearing is how I am going to damage my dog by not spaying her early enough. Thank you again for all your links and info, I appreciate it greatly!

Frustrated with differing opinions on spaying

I know there are many opinions on whether to spay early vs. waiting until the female matures. Originally we had read to wait until after her first cycle and had planned on that, then our vet tried to get us to spay at 5 months (cited medical benefits), then our trainer freaked and said we should wai...

Re: diarrhea and eating raw

Sorry I haven't been around, busy with the last month of school :D

She ended up being fine, it cleared up on it's own within about a day and has been in perfect health since then! Just thought I'd let ya'll know!

diarrhea and eating raw

TMI possibly, but I need advice from other raw feeders... My seven week old Australian Shepherd puppy ate her normal dinner of raw chicken leg quarter last night with a chunk of either frozen kidney or liver (DH can't remember which, apparently they look similar when cut into pieces and frozen). Any...

Re: Raw Food Diet

Thanks for the info! We gave her an egg the other day, she went nuts eating it, she loved it! We were going to start with chicken anyway so maybe we'll do that and freeze the all the other stuff cause patience is not my virtue

Re: Raw Food Diet

/giggle, I'm there with ya! So how long do you freeze it for? I've heard everything from two weeks to a month. I guess we should buy a bunch of stuff now and continually to keep in the freezer so we have it on hand. That will give me some time to do more research since it needs to be frozen although...

Re: Raw Food Diet

Okay I have read this and the other threads and I am alomst ready to make the jump, in fact we grabbed a few things at the grocery store yesterday :D But, I am a little confused by freezing the meat to kill bacteria or whatever. Is that just for wild meat (like deer), I think I read you must freeze ...

Re: Is the Raw diet okay for puppies?

Thanks! I read through the thread, but there was so much info I think I need to read it again LOL. I'll check and see if my library has those books, if not I'll check Amazon :). Thanks for the link!

Re: Is the Raw diet okay for puppies?

Where can I find the guidelines? I know there are a couple threads going about the raw diet, would I find them in one of those? I figured it would be fine, but everyone has his or her own opinion I suppose so it's so confusing sometimes  . Thanks for your advice, I'm new to this board, but I'm...

Is the Raw diet okay for puppies?

I have a 18 week old Australian Shepherd and we (my husband and I) have been discussing trying the raw diet with her as I'm not thrilled with feeding her commercial kibble (right now she is eating Wellness, which I heard was one of the better ones). While researching I read in a few places that you ...
