Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

I found some info on this forum about a "calming cap" that is what I was referring to as blinders. What do you think about trying it for Heidi?

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Thanks Emmabeth, for the advice and comments. Today I played fetch with Heidi out back until she was good n tired. The same thing that happened yesterday occurred. A dog & owner walked in front of our house, and she saw them thru the screen door or window, or she may have heard them. I am reali...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Thank you Jacksdad for the encouragement, and for your candid remarks about keeping Jack in calm places, even now, after all the work you've done with him. I just tried going out the door with Heidi when a woman walking 2 small terriers walked by in the street. Heidi went ballistic with barking and...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

I went today, b4 you posted, still not thinking clearly myself so I forgot the clicker. But it went well, and I only stayed for 10 min. Tomorrow I'll try what you suggested, much better idea. I'll bring her kong, and some other toys. She loves fetch, and she does real well with drop it. There is mo...

Re: Reactive dog - help starting over.

I appreciate all the posts. I am going through a very similar situation; having a reactive dog. She is a 90-100 lb Germ Shep/Lab mix rescue we got as a pup about 2 years ago. We went through a lot of training --- and I finally figured out the difference between positive training and dominance train...

Out of Control Dog or Lazy Boys

I enjoyed this episode, "Out of Control Dog or Lazy Boys." This episode illustrated how all members of the family should contribute to the care of the dog. Victoria was able to help the family by getting the grown sons involved in walking/training, cleaning up after, and feeding their pit...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

I have been very sick since Dec 8th, and am finally getting my strength back. The clicker training is going very well. I am having her touch my palm high up in the air, at her level, down low, and on different objects like her leash. She loves it. I also click when she gets the commands she knows c...

Re: Clicker Training - Heres How!

This is great advice, thank you. I am just starting clicker training with my dog. As I posted on another thread, I have the book "Clicking with your Dog" by Peggy Tillman and a Karen Pryor Clicker book, which I got from our library. My Germ Shep/Lab mix dog is highly intelligent; but is ta...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Thank you for your suggestions, encouragement & advice. Today the package came with the harness, clickers, and toy. It was a day early so I was excited. I started the clicker training with Heidi. Bridget joined in. I can understand why you suggested having another family member train Bridget wh...

Re: IMOTD - lack of love from AP

OK I try to be positive. Victoria is awesome. New York has been strange so far, and I also notice a difference in her demeanor. Here's what I liked about the show: The training with the stick & clicker (which originated with animals other than dogs) The pig & chicken training which illustra...

Re: Bathing a 90 Lb dog who hates water

I found some alternative flea/tick protection made of essential oils. I like the smell of it. I put drops on the brush and brushed it into our poodles coat. You could do the same with lavender essential oil. This consisted of tree oils, and I think rosemary oil which also smells nice. I have heard c...

Re: RECIPES: For Kongs, Meals, Treats, Snacks, and Food Toppings

I make my own dog treats. They are so expensive in the stores, and often contain things I don't want my dogs to eat like sugar, corn, or processed flours. Liver Dog Treats Preheat oven to 350 degrees Use flat baking sheet lined with silicone baking sheets aproximately 1 lb chicken liver (you can use...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Hello and thank you for the replies, again. Yes our yard is fenced, and so is the dog run, because Heidi desecrated my raised beds! But half our yard is in the front unfenced :( Thank you for the info on the halters. I have been to those sites. Heidi needs size 7. With shipping it's $49.95. She's a ...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Hi there, few questions. I have been online all day, ugh. :? Ordered Easywalk, clickers, and new toy, read jacksdog posts, checked out clickertraining.com, and checked walkeez harnesses. Walkeez harnesses look fantastic. Very expensive, $50 aprox with shipping, but well worth it if they fit. Heidi i...

Re: Serious dog reactive behavior need step by step action plan

Dear Emmabeth & Jacksdad, I have written some articles for Examiner.com on birds so I should know to keep the format reader-friendly! Thanks for reformatting it, Emmabeth. Here's one of my articles: http://www.examiner.com/bird-in-san-francisco/birding-the-san-francisco-bay-area-during-the-annua...
