Re: Puppy terrified of another dog in class
I love massage to relax and calm a dog, but there's a right and wrong way. I've never heard of anyone using deep tissue on a dog. I bet your dog was squirming! Poor thing. Soft, GENTLE circle motions on a dog's chest, behind the ears, on the neck or back should be plenty relaxing for a dog. No need ...

Re: Puppy with treat sensitivities, what can I use?
I used boiled chicken breasts (boiled for about 20 minutes) for treats, and they work great. Small pieces of cheese are great (although I wouldn't used them too often for too long when you're just introducing it). Also, using portions of their meal for when you're training is great. (I feel like I s...

Re: Exercise the Mind...
I think there's probably a gray area with chasing a dog. I think it would be fun to switch between 'chase me, chase you' but you never want to use a dog's name when chasing them. You also don't want to play this while teaching a dog (young or old) that coming to you is the best thing in the world. I...

As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with olive oil, but it's not particularly beneficial.DogzRule1996 wrote:So what about that olive oil Should we give or no give?

I love keeping some cooked yam or sweet potato around for Zelda to add to her food.

Re: Bully Sticks
I think the number of chew things per week is the wrong gauge of dental health. You need to do a manual check, and a brushing every so often. Talk to your vet about what you need to keep an eye out for. Chew things do help though.

Re: Puppy terrified of another dog in class
Thank you all SO MUCH for your replies!! I didn't think I was wrong in my concerns, but I wasn't sure. I have already paid for the class and the next class is supposed to be with a tiny little puppy so I guess I will give it one more try. If he reacts in a similar fashion with this puppy, and the t...

Re: Need housetaining advise for 8 week old
From my perspective, you haven't set him back in the least. I too was a neurotic puppy owner, and I was convince one piddle in the house would take years to correct (I too knew that was silly). :D My puppy is now 5 months, nearly broken and still has about one accident every week, sometimes none at ...

Re: Dominance Aggression and Excessive Nipping
Our thirteen week old Cockapoo is showing signs of what could be dominance aggression. Whenever we attempt to correct her, tell her "no" when she's pulling at the curtains for example, she'll bark at us and then go back to what she's doing. If we try to physically move her away from the p...

Re: My dog grabs other dog's neck while playing
As long as it's not getting out of hand (read-causing fights or blood), there is nothing wrong with it. My corgi and her playmate (a dachshund/chihuahua) play like this too. They grab each others necks, lips, jowls, etc. It's how dogs play, and when they're puppies, it's part of learning bite inhibi...

Re: Puppy terrified of another dog in class
First thing you need to do: Get out of that class and away from that trainer because they don't know what they're doing. What your puppy most certainly doesn't need is to be forced to deal with dogs like that if it's uncomfortable. I just went through this with my dog who was terrified of bigger dog...

Re: pottraining for winter???
I love french bulldogs!! They're small, but fairly sturdy little dogs. He should be able to withstand the cold long enough to do his business, but as always, keep an eye on him. Especially on those dead of winter days.

Re: Setting dog up for success-a cautionary tale
I certainly hate to make the generalization that it's a guy thing, but in this case it really seems to be true. And as a result, all of them just can't understand why she's accidentally drawn blood on 5 men, and never on me or other girls. I really think from her early interactions that she thinks m...

Re: Food
No, I don't think you're targeting me at all nor am I upset about anything said. I respect your point of view very much. I do often comment with my opinion on food and wanted to explain why I believe what I do because we often respond in the same food threads.
