Re: Fear of strangers and other issues
Thanks for your answer :) I don't usually ask for "watch mes" if he's sniffing or seeing other dog that's too close, as I know it'd be really hard for him to focus on me. But it seems to be really hard for him anyway, even if there is nothing to sniff or other distractions. Sometimes he'll...

Fear of strangers and other issues
Hi! It's me again, been a while since I last posted. I've been lurking here but somehow haven't updated about me and my dachshund Tami. Tami is now over two years, so I guess he should be a man grown (far from it though). We've had good times, when things have gone smoothly and he has improved a lot...

Re: About SA treatment
Yes, that's exactly what I've been doing, building the time slowly. It just seems that it's not getting us anywhere.. I sometimes tape his behaviour with my web cam and sometimes listen on the door. I'd say he's less anxious if he can sense me on the other side of the door, but I'm really not sure.....

Re: Should I be worried?
Ok, it seems that I have no need to worry. Nowadays I rarely feed him from his bowl, but hide the kibble for him so he has to find it, put it in a kong or do some obedience with him. I've also given him smaller meals and he has not skipped them for a while

Re: About SA treatment
Ok, now I'm really desperate. I've been doing SA training with him for 6 months now and the longest time he's been quiet is seven minutes. I seriously do not know what to do with him. When I finally think that he's able to be on his own for let's say 7 minutes, he starts whining as soon as I leave. ...

Re: Should I be worried?
He's almost 9 months old.
I'd say his just right, I can feel his ribs but can't see them. Actually now that I think about this, it may be that he has taken some weight recently. He used to be more slim, but he's still not overweight. It's really hard to tell tough..

Should I be worried?
Tami has started to skip meals recently. I used to feed him Purina Pro Plan and I switched to Taste of the Wild about a month ago. When I fed him Purina, he refused to eat sometimes and now it has become more common. In last five days he has skipped about half of his meals. I feed him twice a day. I...

Re: About SA treatment
I'm not sure how to do them any harder so that he does not lost his interest in them.. He gives up pretty easily even when I'm around. I've tried freezing them, which he gives up pretty quickly (at least when it's kibble) and put cheese and kibble in the microwave, which he actually eats quickly if ...

About SA treatment
I think I've hit a dead end with SA training.. I leave him alone several times a day for about 3 to 5 minutes and he has always something nice to occupy himself on and he does not whine or anything, he has no time for that as he's too busy ripping things and licking his kong. But when he's done he g...

Re: Clicker Training - Heres How!
I'm having a little problem with the clickertraining.. I taught Tami to spin and he knew it really well, at least I thought so.. I'm teaching him to play dead, which he knows already remotely well. The problme is, that he has forgotten how to spin! Everytime I ask him to spin, he plays dead. I used ...

What is he thinking?
This is not a major issue, but I'd just like to know what is going in his head and how should I react. Tami (8 months old) is very playful and he does not have that many doggie friends, because he is usually scared of bigger dogs than he is. This has happened two times now and both times the another...

Re: Is it bad if a dog follows you in house a lot?
Tami does that too I find it really annoying when he follows me around, although he's not doing it as much as he used to. Check Emmabeth's post on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5339 She describes a good method you can use to get rid of the shadowing.

Re: Aggression to visitors in home & some people outside
I have to admit that most of the other dogs owned by other people dont react badly at all to anyone stroking them, and I have to admit to feeling slightly sad and jealous if i am honest the last few days that my gorgeous boy, who adores cuddles with me, isnt like that. I feel, at least I felt, exac...

Re: Anyone had issues of fear/territorial aggression to people?
Thanks, that really helps you know, hearing that someone has been able to get past SA :) That's tricky question, it depends if he knows the visitor already, has he heard the doorbell, is he being ignored... In general, he calms down if he's being completely ignored and if he can sniff them in peace....
