Re: Puppy aggressive towards guests - ESCALATING!

I was told by a behaviourist we saw , as my dog has similar issues too, to ask guests to warn you if they are going to make any sudden or vertical movements, for example standing up or reaching in with their hands. You can then say "good girl .... (dogs name), good STAY/WAIT", and reward h...

Re: moving to the city with reactive dog

That's good to know - that this ~could~ actually be good for her. I've been struggling a bit with getting treats in through the muzzle quickly. I certainly don't have a spare hand for a clicker at the moment! But I just realised that that bit comes out at the end of the muzzle and that might help. B...

Re: moving to the city with reactive dog

Thanks jakesmom and jacksdad for the advice and support, it helps :) She did leave a mark on the girl's skin, but didn't puncture. It was late at night and I was with my friend who had been visiting that evening, and the two girls did seem a bit drunk. We were walking around a blind corner that is a...

Re: moving to the city with reactive dog

UGH. Things have not been going so well. Two nights ago she bit someone on the street outside my place. I have been trying so hard to keep some distance between us and people outside but the street is narrow and these two girls came out of nowhere, she barked lunged snapped and fell onto her bum. Fi...

Re: moving to the city with reactive dog

Thanks, thats not confusing at all, that sounds like a really good way of using a headcollar... I hadn't even thought of just having it on her for emergencies without a lead attached. I was concerned about her twisting/ lunging/ pulling on the end of it and didn't know if I could handle two leads, s...

Re: STILL Aggressive and snarly Please help...Again :(

I spend a lot of time in Bournemouth and was thinking of going to see these guys http://www.pawsinhand.co.uk/index.htm They seem pretty clued up, and they do a "grumpy growlers" class, for dog aggressive dogs, in a big field with calm stooge dogs, which might work for you. I haven't actual...

moving to the city with reactive dog

Hey, I'm moving into a flat in the city next week. The location is less than ideal for Lauren my GSD cross, there is a bus stop right outside the flat, busy shoppping street, pubs etc etc, I don't know how on earth we're going to deal with it. Despite my efforts, she is still very reactive to dogs a...

Re: Hand made walking harnesses

I have brought two harnessses for Lauren and they both seemed to slide around , just like in your pictures. I am handy with a sewing machine and have been collecting buckles of any old bags etc so thought about making one - did you use a pattern or just work it out yourself? I have looked around onl...

Re: From rabid fox to black bear

I've been travelling / working abroad for the last three months with my dog and boyfriend, and its been all about the dangerous wildlife! In Greece it was the processionary caterpillars which can be deadly to dogs if sniffed or eaten, which were absolutely everywhere, our little greek island was cov...

barking at other dogs playing

We've recently moved to a three dog household. From being just two people and Lauren, we are now 5 people, Lauren (my dog) and two other dogs... sometimes three. Lauren gets on great with both of them 98% of the time, she plays really well with them, one is 9 months and the other about 8 years, fath...

dog food minefield!

OK so Lauren is a 2 year old german shepherd cross flat coat retriever. I changed her food from a medium quality kibble to Orijen about two months ago. For the first month she did fantastic on it, much better firmer poop, less gas, and she would gobble it up every time. However we are now getting to...

Re: K9 Bike Jogger

I think Emmabeth is right, without the springs it won't work work properly. I got one of these for Lauren, she loves it and gets all excited when she sees it. She did pull a bit on it sometimes but not enough to make me feel out of control. However I'm reluctant to use it as since we got it I learne...

Re: Exercise the Mind...

My dog is very clever , she's a 2 yr old german shepherd cross lab. we've been playing "101 things with a box" she loves it and gets so excited when she sees me get a cardboard box down from the shelf and has even tried to get it down herself! we then moved the game onto a little wooden st...
