At the mercy of stray dogs.

Hello lovely, positive people. I have a 10-year old spayed boxer dog, Lara, and I recently moved into a remote house with her inside a fenced garden. Now, I live in Greece, a third-world country with regards to stray dog management. In this area there are stray dog packs all over the place, each one...

Major problems at the dog park

Ok, first let me start by saying that I live in Greece and in terms of many subjects that relate to dogs like training, breeding, canine sports, infrastructure, rules, laws etc we are a 100 trillion years behind. This means there are no dog parks here and noone knows how to really behave there, appa...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

Thank you all so much for your feedback. My mistake was that I thought she had started peeing on the floor after stress from being left alone, and then "got used" to it. But I had no idea about cortizone and its effects. I have been taking her out to pee and poo every two hours now, and he...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

hat you are trying to do is reward her for suppressing her anxiety, and reprimanding her for showing the anxiety, but she still has the anxiety Yes, this makes sense Please don't reprimand her for peeing indoors But then what would be her motivation to hold it until she goes outside? To her the loc...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

Thank you all so much for the positive support. I am so sad and you guys really help. I have 2 new questions and I would love your thoughts on them. Yesterday I tried to do a "I am leaving home" training session with her, although it was improvisation, really, so I do not know if it is the...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

Thank you all. She is currently being treated for diahhrea with cortizone and metronidazole and I also recently changed her food to a hypoallergenic clinic diet. But again, the treatment had already started when we moved in and there were no problems with her potty schedule so far. The last couple o...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

We had been living in that appartment for a week and she got used to the routine. As i said, she started the behavior not the day we did move in but a week after, the first time we left her alone. Of course I had taken her out to do her business before we left her and I did leave her 2 toys, but she...

Re: Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

Thanks... she has no problems whatsoever. She never eliminated inside and we have been living in the new appartment for a week. The problem has started since we left her alone yesterday :(

I didn't know that about bleach, thank you so much for your tip!

Dog started urinating in the house because we left her alone

Hello all, my 12 month old boxer has been living in the country with us and sleeping inside the house on our sofa and at night in her crate. Whenever we had to leave her alone, she would only accept to stay outdoor in the balcony / garden. A week ago we moved into an appartment with no outdoor area,...

Re: How do I teach focus?

Thank you both so much. For starters I will try the long leash in an environment with only a few distractions and work on recall like that. :)

How do I teach focus?

I have been working with a boxer girl for a few weeks (in back yard or outdoors with no distractions) and teaching her commands like sit, lie down, leave it. We have been playing fetch, tug, she has learnt her name, she comes to me when called, she has stopped jumping on people so everything seems t...

Re: Teach puppies to fetch

Thanks a lot, what you describe is very interesting and I will try it out. The problem is that so far only one of the puppies shows interest for treats. The other two just sniff my hand and then ignore it. They don't like me cuddling them either. How should I reward them for dropping the ball? With ...

Teach puppies to fetch

Hello all, I am working with three boxer puppies and trying to teach them fetch, but I realised I need someone to teach me first how to do it! All 3 of them go after the ball I throw, grab it and then they either come back to me or they follow me around with the ball in their mouth. But all t...

Re: Training 3 puppies together?

OK, here is what I noticed. I did devote some time to each one of them seperately today and they all behaved very well. Although they didn't really come to me to let me touch them, were rather trying to grab the ball out of my hand and never brought it back (I had to lure them with another ball), at...
