Whining when out of routine
Hi everyone, I haven't commented in a while because Murphy has been doing really, really well (like he's not even the same dog well). So now we are working on some of his more minor/annoying habits. Lately when we do something that isn't one of our normal routines he's started whining. I know it's b...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
I wanted to give an update that it appears chicken was the cause of his upset stomach. We've re-introduced peanut butter without any issues, next we might add a little veggies (he loves broccoli & peppers). He's been on the Fish & Sweet potato Natural Balance LID for over a month now without...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
OK thanks. I make him a frozen stuffed bone on Friday's when we go away (he gets this on the ferry ride to our weekend house). I've been soaking some dog food in water & this week I mixed in a teaspoon of PB. Hopefully it doesn't upset his stomach!

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
Hi all, So I think we finally *knock on wood* resolved Murphy's stomach issues. We switch him to Natural Balance Limited Ingredients diet - Fish & Sweet Potato. For the last 3 weeks he's been on this only (no treats at all, we've been using his food as a treat). We're pretty sure that he'd devel...

Re: Allergies, heat, or choking?
Last weekend we were away and the pollen in the yard where we were was terrible. Murphy had a similar issue to what you are describing. If he was out for a little while he'd occasionally cough up some foamy saliva (which he'd promptly try to eat again). It only happened if he was in the yard for a f...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
Thanks for the link, I didn't even know that was an option! I'm going to look into it. I feel like our vet is going to be a waste of money, I'm sure she'll just tell me what I can find out with a little research. I feel so bad b/c he loves veggies and cheese, he's so sad when I take something out of...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
Hi, I'm back, eliminating bananas has helped but he's still occasionally sick. I think we'll have to try eliminating foods to see if we can pinpoint it. I'm wondering if he's developed a sensitivity to his dog food (Blue Buffalo chicken & rice). Normally the first sign of sickness is waking in t...

Overexcited when seeing other dogs
Hi all, Back for some more advice with Murphy (our 3 yr. old border collie/cattle dog mix). He's made leaps & bounds over the last year since we started working with a behaviorist/trainer. Unfortunately she had to move away so we haven't been able to work with her lately. Murphy used to be react...

Re: You know you are a dog geek when..
You use kikopups positive interrupter (a kissy noise) when you're out shopping with your mom because she was getting distracted by the shoes and was about to veer from the path to go look at them." Haha I did this to both my Mom & sister (although I do the "click click" tongue no...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
I think we've finally found the culprit to his occasional sickness...bananas! DH & I rotate who takes him out for the last walk at night and the other person will make up his kong for the next day. When I make it 9 times out of 10 I will do peanut butter with a couple of frozen banana slices (or...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
Hm, WufWuf I wonder if that could be it. I'll have to do some research on what foods can cause acid reflux. I'm always shocked at what he finds, he's come up with whole bagels a couple of times (luckily he can't get those down quickly). DH said he couldn't blame him on the beef skewer, he said it lo...

Re: Periodically sick - causes?
Hi, His poo the other night was very runny and a brown/yellow color. He went out for the last time around 8:15 that night and woke us up at midnight to go out. A few weeks ago when this happened he pooped at 12 and then woke us up again at 4 (that time he threw up). Monday night he didn't throw up a...

Periodically sick - causes?
Hi all, Hoping you can help give me ideas on how to figure out what keeps making Murphy sick. It happens probably 1-2 times a month, for some reason it always seems to be on a Sunday night or Monday night (could totally be a coincidence on the time but thought I'd give you as much detail as possible...

Re: Dog beds
I'm in the same boat! Murphy has a plain bed we got from Cabella's but I think he'd really love one with bolsters (he loves to lean against things). I've been looking at the Orvis & LL Bean options, I just can't find one that I like for cheaper. Especially since it will be in our living room so ...

Re: Whining Beagle...A love affair with rawhides
We do the muffin tin game, it's great without having to buy an actual toy. We also have him wait on his bed while we hide treats around the house & then have him go find them (seeing as yours is a beagle he'd probably be way better at it than my border collie mix). Or you can play hide & see...
