Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
The last two months (to the day, I'm just realizing, ouch) have just been about surviving for me. Delta passed away pretty suddenly and unpleasantly, and then just about the next day my state started stay-at-home orders. It's been really awful. I do have my little puppy to keep me going and on a sch...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
As FB-land friends know, about nine weeks ago my sister's boyfriend (delivers for UPS) saw a little doggy running around in a middle-of-nowhere truck depot. It was going to get below freezing that night, so he went back with a couple of drive-through cheeseburgers and was able to snag her. She was v...

I'm a month or two late on the prey drive discussion but it's something I've been diving into quite a bit recently as I volunteer as the behavior consultant at DogBreederGame.com :D I had to jump in when the admin was proposing the personality traits be "prey drive, pack drive, fight/defense dr...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
It's been years so I can't remember who first introduced me to it, but I'm pretty sure the Voice of Doom saved Delta from a mauling at the very least today. A neighbor has a great Dane who hates Delta and today they were in the parking lot, chatting behind a car so I didn't see the dog, with the dog...

Re: Weaning off afternoon walks
My grandma has a finger that cramps up and is extremely painful. The doctors' remedies all helped a little, bringing the pain down from a 9 to a 6. Still pretty darn intense! But the lady at her hair salon gave her a massage with some CBD oil and it took the pain down to a 1 or 2 in minutes. Whether...

Re: I’m back re: ESAs
Reactive dogs are not suitable to be service dogs. It's a pretty universal opinion in service dog communities, though it is not part of the law (though if your dog is barking at another dog, you can be kicked out of establishments). It sounds like you can at least distract Chance, though. Another th...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Can't believe I'm giving a dog treats for peeing inside, but I figure I have to show him that peeing where I can see is good, so maybe I can get him to pee outside. A rescue in New Jersey is helping get the dogs out of a Kentucky puppy mill. Lots of doodles, it seems. And for some reason they're mak...

Re: airedale and coyote playing
When I think about the things that Raymond Coppinger, Clive D. L. Wynne, and John Bradshaw have said about the leading dog domestication theories, I can't help but wonder....are we seeing some of the same factors at play with Coyotes? Even if we are, there is no guarantee Coyotes will end up domest...

Had a similar kind of "yay for people not assuming things" moment today, Nettle! Was working with an adolescent GSD with some fairly mild stranger-danger (big surprise ;P ) and two kids got out of a car and were talking to their mom -- "Mom, look, doggy! Can we go say hi?" It did...

Well, Mr. Wonderful and my dad's new puppy (German shepherd, of course) must be about the same age! Flint comes home next weekend too! Congratulations Mr. Wonderful looks like a proper chunky potato.
