Re: New dog in town!

ok, thanks Nettle! I am trying the strategy of distracting either of the two before they even begin the unwanted behavior...but then there's another problem of the food aggression, so i can't treat one without treating the other...or can i?!?! They are both HIGHLY food motivated...so where to go fro...

Re: New dog in town!

okie dokie. That's what I feared was the truth. I know what you mean about the "cute" thing...it is so easy to think, "oh they are so cute playing like that..." but I am trying to be as proactive as possible but man, it gets TIRING constantly correcting them. I guess, however, in...

Re: GoldenDoodle with Behavioral Problems

I really have no advice to add, Foodkop, just encouragement. When I got Daisy, she was my first puppy of my OWN (my family has always had dogs but not me on my own) and I was a nervous wreck. I lost sleep, I lost weight, I bawled and shut myself out from the world. I was SO WORRIED that she would......

Re: unglue my dog from me

@pratimapthk - I agree with Nettle and think you do too. The first thing I do when i get home is take Daisy on a 45-minute (or so) walk. She is only left at home for 3 hours or so between when my husband leaves for work and I return. In the morning, before I go to work, I take her on a 20-minute wal...

Re: New dog in town!

hi Stacey and JacksDad! I'm so sorry for the late replies, but I haven't had access to my computer until today and it's just too difficult to type all this out on my phone... Ok, so the dog sitting has been going well (aside from me wanting to pull all my hair out from boredom being on lockdown in a...

New dog in town!

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I last posted, which is a good thing, I guess, because it means that Daisy (my 9month old Border/minpin/terrier cross) and I are doing well, she is responding great to training and she no longer has the "issues" that I previously wrote about because of ...

Re: 4 mo old puppy extremely aggressive!

my 5 mo. border collie X is also food aggressive and will occasionally bark at other people on our walks. She loves dogs, however, when the neighbor's dog tried to mess with her treats, she demonstrated aggression towards her. I am working hard on training this out of her now, especially the behavio...

Re: please help?!?

oh thanks so much, nettle. I'm just worried that the next time she sees a dog instead of being friendly like she currently is, she will charge and be aggressive. Where's the best place to begin to re-socialize her? Our puppy class is done and I've signed up for another one, however, it's not for ano...

please help?!?

Hi everyone! I was out on my morning walk today with Daisy when the neighbor's pit bull charged us. He is usually fenced in and always says hello to us as we walk by, but I've never let them smell each other or anything because he doesn't look like he would be too dog-friendly (I think he's trained ...

Re: 10 week old puppy (just wonderd if anyone had any advice)

he seems very attatched to me and cries when he can't see me even if my partner is in the room. any suggestions on how to stop him crying when I leave as I dont want this to develop into full blown separation anxiety amd he is going to have to be on his own during the day a couple of days a week fr...

Re: Puppy food aggression

sorry, so I'm just needing some insight. Is the act of putting the food bowl down and having pup "wait" for a few seconds what caused Bauer's food aggression? I do that with Daisy and I am wondering if I created her aggression as well...if the aggression is still happening, but is MUCH bet...

Re: 10 week old puppy (just wonderd if anyone had any advice)

Yesterday I bought home my new puppy home called Jet. He is a black lab cross collie and is 10 weeks old :D He has a lovely temperament and as far as puppies go he is pretty chilled out. :D Heehee just wanted to share that's what I thought about daisy when I first got her at 9weeks. She's a border ...

Re: Loose Lead walking

ahhh, I see. So, my goal is to have her NEVER get to the "pull" in the first place. . .so I can positively reinforce instead of negative. got it! thanks much! I'm going to try this evening, I'm really excited. I hope to practice, practice, practice over the weekend and week and then take h...

Re: Loose Lead walking

sorry everyone, I'm a little late reading this thread, as usual...now that Daisy and I are walking twice a day and she walks once with my fiancé or mom, I want to make sure to establish good habits from the get-go. What our trainer has advised is never to pull her back, but to STOP completely when w...

Re: Chicken Soup/Kong question

i always flavor Daisy's chicken broth with a clove of garlic. I just remove the whole clove before feeding it to her. :) You can also add carrots, celery and zucchini to flavor the broth...once the veggies cool completely, I mix em in with her food. she lovesssss it and it's healthy for them too...a...
